Preventative Dental Care
They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is never truer than when it comes to looking after your teeth. Visiting your dentist for regular dental check-ups is imperative for the health of your teeth and gums, and can vastly reduce the risk of more serious dental issues, such as cavities. Regular professional teeth cleaning minimises the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. These check-ups allow for general oral health to be maintained and may include:
- Thorough examination including x-rays
- Scale and Clean
- Fluoride Treatment
- Fissure Sealants
Preventative Dentistry Questions
Should I use an electric toothbrush?
Many patients feel that an electric toothbrush gives a better clean than a manual one. They have a small head that allows the operator to easily clean all areas of the mouth. They have soft bristles that are gentle on the teeth. The rotating action is effective for removing plaque. They often have a mechanism that prevents you from using pressure when you brush to minimise enamel wear. They often have a timer for 2 mins ensuring you brush for long enough.
How often should I visit the dentist?
Every 6 months for examination and a professional clean. The dentist may recommend more frequent visits if there is anything that needs monitoring or if you suffer from gum disease.
