Veneers
A Veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface either to protect a damaged tooth surface or to improve the aesthetics of a tooth. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer, composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer is built up using a white filling material, whereas a porcelain veneer is fabricated by a dental technician in a laboratory and later bonded to the tooth. Porcelain is a more aesthetic and long-lasting material.
Crowns
Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth. They strengthen the tooth by covering and encasing it. It is also used as a method to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth. The crown is made in a dental laboratory and later bonded to the tooth.
Bridgework
A bridge is an appliance that is permanently fixed in the mouth to replace missing teeth. It consists of crowns that are fixed to the natural teeth on either side, with false teeth ridgidly attached to these crowns to fill the space of the missing teeth. This appliance is also made in the dental laboratory.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a permanent appliance used to replace an extracted tooth/teeth. It is an artificial tooth root fabricated from a strong biocompatible material which is submerged into the jawbone underneath the gum tissue and left undisturbed for a period of time. Afterwards, it is uncovered and connected to a small metal post that secures and supports the artificial tooth.
