General Dentistry
As well as helping you with all your preventative dentistry needs, if particular problems arise, our experienced and gentle team can assess and help you with all your general dental needs, including the following services.
White Composite (tooth coloured) Fillings
White fillings consist of a composite material combining glass particles with resin. This material comes in many different colours so the natural colour of the tooth can be replicated. These fillings are bonded to the tooth, therefore reinforcing the tooth and may help to prevent fracture.
Replacement of Amalgam Fillings
Whether for health or purely aesthetic reasons, many people choose to have their mercury amalgam fillings replaced with modern white composite (tooth coloured) fillings.
Fissure Seals
Fissure seals are sealants (made of composite resin) that are placed over grooves (fissures) to protect your teeth, by preventing food from getting trapped and therefore lessening the chance of tooth decay occurring in that location.
Wisdom Teeth
Your dentist will assess and recommend whether or not you get your wisdom teeth removed. Wisdom teeth can be required to be removed for many reasons, including:
- Prevent infection as these large molars push through your gums
- Prevent crowding of existing teeth
- If they are impacted into your jaw or the roots of other teeth
- Stop damage to other teeth
In order to determine the best course to take, your dentist will send you for an OPG X-ray to assess them and then give a recommendation. Some wisdom teeth erupt without any complications and do not need to be removed.
Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)
Root canal therapy is a treatment to save an infected or broken down tooth. This treatment enables the patient to keep the tooth rather than it having to be extracted. The process is to remove the inflamed or dead pulp from the inside of the tooth, cleaning and shaping the canals, and filing the canals. It often requires a series of visits to the dentist.
